Job Title: Commercial Driver (CDL) - Job Description

Job Overview:As a Commercial Driver with a Commercial Driver's License (CDL), you will be responsible for safely transporting goods or passengers over short or long distances. Whether employed by a company as a CDL driver or operating as an Owner-Operator, your role is crucial to the efficient movement of goods and services.

Responsibilities:

  1. Safe Operation of Commercial Vehicles:Drive commercial vehicles, such as trucks or buses, in compliance with traffic laws and regulations.
    Ensure the safe and secure transportation of goods or passengers.
  2. Load and Unload Cargo:Safely load and unload cargo, ensuring that it is properly secured for transportation.
    Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections to check for any issues with the vehicle or cargo.
  3. Adherence to Delivery Schedules:Deliver goods or passengers to specified locations within established timeframes.
    Plan routes efficiently, considering factors such as traffic, weather, and road conditions.
  4. Documentation and Record Keeping:Complete and maintain accurate logs, including driver logs, mileage logs, and delivery receipts.
    Ensure all necessary paperwork, permits, and documentation are in order.
  5. Customer Service:Interact professionally with customers during pick-ups and deliveries.
    Provide excellent customer service, addressing inquiries and ensuring customer satisfaction.
  6. Vehicle Maintenance:Perform routine maintenance checks on the vehicle, such as oil changes and tire rotations.
    Report any mechanical issues promptly and follow maintenance schedules.
  7. Compliance with Regulations:Adhere to all applicable federal, state, and local regulations governing the operation of commercial vehicles.
    Stay informed about changes in regulations and industry best practices.
  8. Owner-Operator Specific Responsibilities:If functioning as an Owner-Operator, manage the business aspects of transportation, including financial aspects, scheduling, and maintenance.
    Secure contracts for transportation services and negotiate rates.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with the appropriate endorsements.
  • Clean driving record with no major violations.
  • Knowledge of and compliance with safety regulations and protocols.
  • Excellent driving skills and attention to road safety.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy items if required.
  • For Owner-Operators, business management skills and ability to operate as an independent contractor.
